R442 London E/3 or HR/2
Ex ABS, ex BEC kit.
Fifty HR/2 cars (Nos 1854-1903) and 100 E/3 cars (Nos 1904-2003) were built by English Electric in 1930.
A further 60 HR/2 cars (Nos 101-160) were built by Hurst Nelson in 1931. These cars were only to be used on conduit tracks, so were not fitted with trolley poles.
Leyton also ordered 50 class E/3 cars (Nos 161-210). These bore the Leyton coat of arms. Some of the bogie truck sides had decorative panels fitted, but these were soon discarded.
One hundred and nine HR/2 cars passed to LPTB in 1933. HR/2s numbers 1881, 1883, 1886 were sold to Leeds just before the war, with the promise of more but did not happen. Sixteen cars were destroyed during the war.
Car no 1858 was sold to a private individual for preservation in 1952 and is at the East Anglia Transport Museum.
With minor modifications, most of the variations of both the Class E/3 and Class HR/2 cars can be built from the kit.
If you want to make a model of the second batch of HR/2s, then the EMB Class 6A bogies are available in the OO gauge / OO spares section of the website.
