KW 080 Portsmouth LIFU car
This kit is of the Portsmouth and later Portsdown & Horndean LIFU car.
This unique tram was built by the Liquid Fuel Engineering Company of East Cowes, Isle of Wight. It used “liquid fuel” (oil) heat the boiler to make steam. It generally worked on the Town Hall to North End route of the Provincial Tramways Company and towed one or two trailers in busy times. It ran from 1896 to 1901. It then transferred to the Portsdown & Horndean Light Railway where it was used occasionally for passenger traffic until 1917, then became the works shunter. It later served as an office and store in the yard, surviving at least until 1936-7.
